Sylvia Melecio

Flamenco Instructor

Sylvia Melecio has been studying and performing Flamenco in the Washington, DC area since 2000. She has studyied intensively with Ms. Estela Velez since 2002 and is one of the founding members of Furia Flamenca, a Flamenco Dance Company under the direction of Ms. Velez.

Sylvia has also trained with Flamenco Masters Antonio Santaella, Antonio Vargas and La Farruca and has attended workshops at the National Institute of Flamenco in New Mexico and the Manuel Betanzos Flamenco Academy in Spain.

She is also on faculty at the Joy of Motion Dance Center in Washington, DC, Elan DanceSport Center in Merrifield, VA, and the Dream In Color Foundation Dance Studio in Annandale, VA. She has participated in festivals throughout the DC metropolitan area in events such as DC Dance Festival, Washington, DC’s Feria de Sevilla, National Cherry Blossom, various Hispanic Heritage Month celebration events and has performed in many venues such as the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center, the Jack Guidone Theater, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Dance Place, Publick Playhouse and Alden Theater.

Her dance background includes Ballet, Spanish Dance and Folk Dances from Spain, Mexico and Argentina, which she studied while in her native Puerto Rico.
