Tribal Fusion Belly Dance- Improv for the Solo Dancer
(Drills & Skills)
Belly Dance improvisation can be uncomfortable to many dancers, and to others, it can be downright terrifying!
In this newly introduced class series, Belladonna uses her 14 years of improvisational dance experience to help you overcome your fear or improve your current skills. Each student will discover and experience the joy of spontaneously interpreting music through dance movements.
The class focus will be on:
-An introduction to music structure and understanding popular rhythms.
-How to work with your performance space, including traveling and level changes.
-How to create continuity through repetition and variation.
-How to handle the “oh no what should I do next?” moment and overcome the “I only do four moves over and over” feeling.
We will also work on the use of combinations to create a “safety net” and as a means to interpret the music.
Every week, students will be given homework assignments and the class will culminate with a small hafla/ dance party in which they can showcase their new skills with confidence!
This class is a must for all intermediate technique students who want to capture the essence of belly dance improvisation as a way to channel the spirit of music through the dancer.
